Walks & Trails

Enjoy your Walk

#

Wavecrest has a variety of spectacular walks & trails. The diversity of the different vegetation types which come together at Wavecrest have created opportunity for us to design a whole range of exciting trail options.
Walking options cater for all ages and fitness levels, and range from gentle strolls to full day trails.

Coastal walks

Wander along the grassy coastal hills, always displaying a profusion of wildflowers. These walks meander up to high points where it is worthwhile spending some time - from these vantage points you have a good chance of being entertained by dolphins, whales and gannets.
The walks south from the hotel eventually lead to the Kobonqaba River, a quiet, secluded river mouth and beach perfect for picnicking.
Crossing the river, heading further south, you will encounter the wreck of the Jacaranda which ran aground in 1971. This wreck is right on the beach and easily accessible, and allows for great photographic opportunities.

Coastal walks North of the hotel lead you up a pristine beach to some lovely natural tidal pools and fishing spots. Large milkwood trees grow right onto the beach, so why not relax in the shade with a good book and picnic lunch. Climb the high dunes and enjoy the view for miles around.

Forest walks

There are several newly marked routes. Explore the Nxaxo Dune forest and visit its giant trees. Spend time looking for Blue Duiker and Crowned Eagles. This is a large tract of forest and skirts the river.
Forest patches south of the hotel are different in structure, and are very busy with birdlife.

Walks through the grasslands around the upper reaches of the two rivers skirt the edge of the floodplain, and are great for spotting Crowned Cranes and Ground Hornbills.

These trails are self-guided. For those wishing to learn more about the area, knowledgeable local guides are available to enhance your experience.

We are in the process of remarking routes, creating more hiking options and designing interpretive map books
